A Gem of a Colour…

Last week Pantone, provider of professional colour standards for the design industries, announced PANTONE® 17-5641 Emerald as the Colour of the Year for 2013. For over ten years Pantone has influenced product development in many industries, not least interior design. Watch out for the vibrant, gemstone green popping up in fabrics and furnishings, as well as your favourite paint charts.

You don’t have to look far for evidence that this is the hot new colour for the new year!…

…and what more inspiration do you need than the Emerald Isle itself?…

The jewel-inspired hue could breathe life into your hallway, dining room or study. Try it as an accent wall for a bold statement, or in well thought through accessories for a more subtle nod to fashion. Add a splash of colour to dining areas by displaying emerald green dinnerware or glassware on open shelves or a cupboard top. You could also liven up a lacklustre kitchen with emerald splashback glass (try Deco Glaze) or tiles (Fired Earth Metropolitan rectangular tiles in Russell even look like emeralds!).

Deco Glaze manufacture glass splash backs in any colour. Here they’ve been created in last year’s colour of the year Tangerine Tango (Pantone 17-1463)

A quicker fix would be some bright counter top appliances like this KitchenAid mixer.

One of my all time favourites, the Arne Jacobsen Egg chair, looks fabulous covered in emerald green, and would provide the wow factor in a contemporary white interior…
